About Me

My photo
Leaving the British winter far behind, I'm blogging about my travels in the Cuban sunshine. The photos are a combined effort between my travel chum CDD and me. The words are all mine.

Around the Moncada

Santiago's Moncada Barracks are most famous for what happened there on July 26th 1953; more than 100 revolutionaries led by the then little known Fidel Castro stormed Batista's troops there, Cuba's second-most important military garrison.  After the revolution the barracks were turned into a school, and now part of the school is a museum.  Bullet holes remain as a reminder of the attack in 1953.
