About Me

My photo
Leaving the British winter far behind, I'm blogging about my travels in the Cuban sunshine. The photos are a combined effort between my travel chum CDD and me. The words are all mine.

Playing with the horizon seventeen floors up

Our flight ticket to Havana came with three free nights' accommodation at the Melia Cohiba, one of Havana's five star hotels along the Malecon in Vedado.  The views from our seventeenth floor room gave us great views across the Florida Straits towards the land of the free some ninety miles away....

Day two in Havana brought with it something of a gale, and at first I was worried we'd been a bit premature in thinking the hurricane season had passed, especially when I looked out of the window and saw the waves crashing over the Malecon sea wall and flooding into the road.  I needn't have feared - it's a common site on certain stretches of the Malecon throughout the year!  Any geographers amongst you will be pleased to hear that the Cuban Government has assigned some money to improving sea defences along the worst affected stretches.  Phew.

A little bit of camera trickery
