Following a dip in the pool and lots of coffee to shake off the jet lag, we went for a wander around to get our bearings. The Malecon was in front of us - the mighty sea wall that stretches for 8km along the length of Havana - and the wide streets lined with slightly crumbling mansion houses peeling off behind. Vedado has a beautifully relaxed feel about it. You can easily explore the streets with their plentiful trees and flowering plants, with only the occasional 1950s-built American car crawling past to interrupt the peace.

- Leaving the British winter far behind, I'm blogging about my travels in the Cuban sunshine. The photos are a combined effort between my travel chum CDD and me. The words are all mine.

A Vedado morning
